Luis Suarez Has His Eyes Set on the Bernabeu
Luis Suarez has given his best indication yet that he may be hustling for a move away from Anfield after declaring in an radio interview that it would be hard to resist playing for the Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Suarez is currently in the midst of a 10-game ban for biting the Chelsea defender, Branislav Ivanovic, in the 2-2 draw at Anfield back in April. It is the second time that Suarez has found himself on the sidelines after sinking his teeth into an opponent’s flesh. Suarez was serving a ban for his previous club Ajax, when Liverpool signed him for £22.8 million in January 2011. The Uruguayan was handed a seven-match ban for biting the shoulder of the PSV Eindhoven player Otman Bakkal back in November 2010.
At the time punishment was served, Liverpool Director Ian Ayre told the press, “The club and player are both shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s decision.”
It was widely believed that Suarez could forge a way out of Anfield after the 10-game ban arrived hot on the heels of the eight game ban he served, after being found guilty of racially abusing the Manchester United left back Patrice Evra, but the vibes emanating from Merseyside was that Suarez would stay put.
Then this happened:
“I have a contract with Liverpool but it would be hard to say no to Real Madrid,” Suarez told the Uruguayan radio station, “I have spoken to Brendan Rodgers and he understands what I want. He understands my situation. It is a pride for the people of Uruguay that one has the opportunity to go to Madrid.”
Suarez is contracted to Liverpool until 2017, so his fans will consider his comments way out of line.
