Man United: David de Gea signs new contract

The Spain international David De Gea has penned a new four-year contract with the Premier League giants Manchester United which will keep the 24-year-old at Old Trafford until 2019.

The shot-stopper was the subject of the summer transfer saga with the La Liga giants Real Madrid, having the idea of bringing the Spaniard to the Bernabeu.

“I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career,” the keeper said. “I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans.

“Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career.

“I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my teammates to be successful.”

De Gea hasn’t played for the Red Devils yet this season as manager Louis van Gaal has started the summer recruit Sergio Romero in goal, feeling that De Gea wasn’t ready enough on the football after intense speculation linking him with a huge-money move to Madrid.

Manchester United’s number one is likely to be in for his first team this weekend when the Red Devils host Liverpool in Saturday’s Premier League action.
