Premier League pair linked as Jerome Boateng refuses negotiation
Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham have been credited with an interest for Jerome Boateng as the Germany international is reportedly unwilling to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich.
The 32-year-old has garnered great successes at the Allianz Arena since joining the club from Manchester City in 2011. His time in Munich so far has seen him win two Champions Leagues, eight Bundesliga titles and five German Cups.
The defender’s current deal is set to expire in 2021 and it appears that he wants a new challenge elsewhere, like his former teammates Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba.
As per Sports Witness, BILD reporter Christian Falk has said that the experienced player is unwilling to negotiate an extension, while Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in making a move for the 32-year-old.
The report also mentions Arsenal who are in the hunt to sign Boateng, even though they have already hired Gabriel and William Saliba to bolster their defensive ranks. However, David Luiz’s contract is close to expire soon, with the Brazilian penning a one-year extension until 2021.
Like the Gunners, Spurs also have many options in the centre-back department, with Davison Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and newcomer Joe Rodon all available. However, the temptation to sign a player like Jerome could prove too much for them.
