Manchester City eyeing Castello Lukeba swoop
Manchester City’s interest in RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba is a clear sign of Pep Guardiola’s ongoing quest to strengthen his defensive options.
Lukeba, 21, has rapidly become one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe since his move from Lyon to Leipzig in 2023. His performances in the Bundesliga have caught the attention of elite clubs, and Guardiola seems keen to bring him to the Etihad by summer 2025.
Lukeba’s profile fits Guardiola’s vision perfectly. He is comfortable playing out from the back, strong in aerial duels, and tactically aware. Despite his recent contract extension with Leipzig until 2029, City’s financial power could make a deal happen, with a potential fee around €60-70 million. For City, the acquisition would not only bolster their immediate options but also secure a defensive talent for the future.
With the growing competition for Lukeba across Europe, it will be interesting to see if City can convince him to make the Premier League his next step.
