Mbappe extends his stay at PSG and snub Real Madrid transfer
Kylian Mbappe’s decision to stay at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has sent shockwaves through the football world. At just 23 years old, the French sensation was at the centre of one of the most anticipated transfer sagas, with many expecting him to make a blockbuster move to Real Madrid. However, Mbappe has opted to remain in Paris, agreeing to a three-year contract extension with the French giants.
Mbappe’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the season, which led to intense speculation about his future. Real Madrid, long-time admirers of the forward, were confident of securing his signature, especially after their successful Champions League campaign, which included a dramatic victory over PSG. Despite their best efforts and a lucrative offer on the table, Mbappe chose loyalty over a new challenge, a decision that underscores his belief in PSG’s project.
His mother, Fayza Al-Amari, played a significant role in the negotiations and revealed that Mbappe had agreements with both PSG and Real Madrid. According to her, the contracts were similar in terms of financial rewards and sporting promises, leaving the final decision to Mbappe himself. Ultimately, he chose to continue his journey with PSG, where he has been the face of the club since his arrival from Monaco in 2017.
This season, Mbappe has been in scintillating form, showcasing why he is regarded as one of the best players in the world. He leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts with 25 goals and also tops the assist table with 17, underlining his all-around contribution to the team. In all competitions, he has netted 36 goals in 45 appearances, further solidifying his reputation as a goal machine.
However, despite Mbappe’s individual brilliance, PSG’s season has been somewhat disappointing. While they comfortably secured the Ligue 1 title, it was the only silverware they managed to win. Their campaign was marred by early exits in both the Champions League, where they were knocked out by Real Madrid in the last 16, and the Coupe de France. This lack of success on the European stage, where PSG’s ambitions truly lie, has been a source of frustration for the club and its supporters.
Mbappe’s decision to stay will be seen as a huge boost for PSG as they continue their quest for European glory. With his future now settled, the focus will be on building a squad capable of delivering the Champions League title that has eluded them. For Mbappe, the next three years in Paris represent an opportunity to further cement his legacy and possibly lead PSG to the pinnacle of European football.
