Patrick Bamford’s late strike secures full points for Leeds at Sheffield United
Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford continued his excellent form in the English top flight as he struck late to secure a narrow victory for the Whites at Sheffield United.
The two Yorkshire clubs clashed at Bramall Lane, with the Blades coming to play after losing both their league matches while the Elland Road outfit arriving in a buoyant mood after winning against Fulham.
Both sides failed to score any goal in the first half, with both goalkeepers showing some great heroics. The Peacocks stopper Illan Meslier made a great save to thwart John Lundstram’s close-range attempt, and then Aaron Ramsdale denied Stuart Dallas to get the breakthrough for Leeds.
In the second half, Bamford looked more threatening to score but the brilliance of Ramsdale kept the scoreline 0-0.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side came extremely close to scoring when Dallas rounded the keeper out wide, however, his weak shot was cleared by Chris Basham.
The 22-year-old stopper kept bailing out the hosts as he denied a long-range attempt from Ian Poveda, but the Whites finally managed to break the deadlock when Bamford headed home in the 87th minute of the game. This means that the English footballer has now scored in all the three Premier League matches for the West Yorkshire side this season.
Leeds will now host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Elland Road next week.
