The Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal was dealt another huge blow after the veteran midfielder would be on the receiving end of a retrospective ban.
The 31-year-old Germany international signed for Man United from Bayern Munich in the summer, and has appeared in 14 league games this season so far.
Meanwhile, Manchester United fans had a mixed reaction to the news.
Schweinsteiger will be suspended vs BOU (A) NOR (H) STO (A) He returns vs CHE (H) Pathetic @FA the referee saw and dealt with it.

Bastian Schweinsteiger to contest his three match ban, which will mean it’ll be increased to four and he’ll enjoy a winter break as per 🇩🇪

If Schweinsteiger gets charged for that, then the FA are a joke

Call it bias, but I think a 3 game ban for Bastian Schweinsteiger would be harsh. 1 game? Bearable. 3 seems excessive #MUFC #Schweinsteiger

I can’t see Schweinsteiger winning his appeal so he’ll probably miss our next three games
